Conakry, June 24, 2025 — Guinea is preparing to take a significant step in its political transition as the draft of the new Constitution has been unanimously adopted following a review by a committee of experts appointed by the Head of State. This panel, made up of nine Guinean university law scholars, was tasked with revising, amending, and harmonizing the legal provisions of the preliminary draft governing the operation of state institutions.
According to sources close to the process, the experts worked meticulously to ensure the legal consistency of the text, aiming to uphold democratic principles and provide a balanced framework for the functioning of the Republic’s institutions.
The adoption of this Constitution through a referendum is officially scheduled for September 21, 2025, as stipulated by a presidential decree issued recently. The date is seen as both symbolic and strategic, as the country seeks to rebuild trust between citizens and transitional authorities.
A large popular turnout is expected to mark this historic event. Civil society organizations, political parties, and community leaders have begun mobilizing and urging citizens to take part in what they describe as a rare opportunity to lay the foundation for a new republican order.
This constitutional reform process is part of a broader effort to restructure the state, launched by the transitional government with the goal of restoring constitutional order and paving the way for inclusive elections.
The coming weeks will be crucial for raising public awareness, disseminating the content of the draft Constitution, and ensuring the logistical readiness of the national referendum.
